"A million stars aren’t enough" (This review appears on Heather Wayman Belly Dance @ www.facebook.com/HipTrip)
I was so scared to join this class. I’m very self conscious, and being on the chubby end of the spectrum, I expected to feel out of place and awkward. But when I got there, I met wonderful people who were incredibly kind. A teacher who makes it a point to know everyone’s name, and takes the time to individually work with everyone IN the class. She made me feel better about my body, and how it moves, even when I stop it keeps going, but she made me comfortable, and I felt like I just belonged with all these people in the class. Who, again, ended up being some amazing women. I can’t wait to get back.

Between work and being a student I spend most of my time at a desk, so my posture has become
less than desirable. Wanting to fix my problem I went to doctors, masseuses, and talked to physical therapists. Their solution is to make sure you bring your shoulders back, and TRY to line up your spine. Doing this left me with tightened shoulder muscles that created painful knots up my neck and my back always hurt. I had eventually written my quest for pain free posture off when I came across the Basic Belly Dancing class. Sure enough, one of the basics in belly dancing is proper posture. I soon learned that the problem causing all of my pain was the act of pulling my shoulders back, instead of lifting with my chest. This took all of the tension off of my shoulders and lined up my spine! My lower back pain even went away! I feel much better! Thanks Heather! ~ Jessica K. |
The Rush
The anticipation The fear For they might boo Or will they cheer As the crowds hush The adrenalin to it's height Awaiting that rush That will last the night Pause for one Step for three Hear the music Then they'll see What we feel What we crave How we deal What we brave The Rush. - Breeni Fine November 2012 |
I just wanted to thank you for a fun class tonight. I can't wait for Thursday. You make Granbury very special! After living in the Middle East for 9 years it is a real treat to dance in a public place. I missed it more than I knew. See you on the dance floor! heehee.. ~ Tanya S.

Just wanted to say Thank You for the experience Saturday (Harvest Moon Festival, Oct. 2012). It was really fun and it is getting easier for me each time. I really appreciate you helping me conquer a fear I’ve had all my life.
I’m proud of Breeni for getting in the front row. That’s because of you too. ~ Pam F.

What a fabulous way to make new friends and share in a camaraderie of beautiful women! All of us finding our inner Goddess and feeling wonderful about ourselves no matter our age. I have been a ballroom dancer for years and truly enjoyed every minute, but I must say that belly dance is incredibly liberating and gives that "little girl" in all of us, a chance to come out and play again. And guess what? It doesn't require a partner!
Heather is an amazing dancer and instructor! She really is quite special in her ability to coax that timid little dancer and confident woman out of us that most of us didn't think was there. I encourage everyone to "just try it"......you will get hooked & surprised!!! ~Lorrie N.

Heather, thank you for taking me back to my childhood. I have loved and watched belly dancing since I was a young girl. The passion for it was always there but stayed dormant after I grew up with responsibilities.
You have brought it back for me, and to make things even better I get to share this elegant dance with my girls!! Our mother/daughter time in your class is another memory I will make with them, that is a gift all in itself. You are a fabulous dancer and we look forward to more classes and dances! ~Neda and Nautica B.

"I'm really enjoying this freedom. (Your classes) are a complete and utter outlet to my daily grind.
Not so much that I have a stressful life, but more that I have a controlled life.
Taking belly dancing lessons would have been the last thing in my life I thought I would ever do.
but its the least restricting thing I have ever done.
It makes me feel pretty again". Thanks, Susan P.

“Back in early spring (2011) as I read the Hood County News I came across a Belly By Heather ad. I contemplated the thought, laughed a little at the thought of me shaking anything, but decided to step out and try something new. Something different than the boot camps I had done before. Something with a little less impact, but more fun than killing myself doing obstacle courses and sit ups. On my first day I was pleasantly surprised with the vast array of ages of women in the group. I have gained many new friendships with women I might have never met otherwise. I have gained more range of motion of my body, I have lost inches in my rump….guess I wasn’t moving my belly. I have a whole new sense of self and believe I can be that person I never thought was possible. I thoroughly enjoy the classes and look forward to combining the movements to music. I find myself doing figure-eights, mayas and shimmies to any music I hear, * even sometimes as I drive to and from work *. I am so thankful I didn’t dismiss that little ad in the paper as something I could never see myself doing.” ~ Sara Dickson
** Teacher’s note: ~ While I certainly understand that spontaneous shimmies may occur at anytime (they happen to me all the time), belly dancing on the drive to or from work must be done at your own risk : ) I can not be responsible for what happens outside of class time. Be sure to wait for a stop sign or a stop light if you must practice in the car.....and smile! : )

“I have been taking classes from Heather for about a year and a half and I can’t express how much
I have enjoyed everything about them. From the warm-ups to the choreography,
Heather is an excellent instructor who is very creative at finding a way to connect with the
students regardless of age or physical capability.
I highly recommend these classes for anyone who is interested in learning something creative, fun and truly beautiful.”

“Belly Dance classes are fun and just what I needed to help develop my self-confidence. The earthier “Improvisational Tribal Style” classes have given me new insight on the art form and has proven that there are no boundaries regardless of age. Anyone can do this!! In addition, I’ve found a fun way to maintain a healthier
life style and definitely a happier way of weight management. I’ve also fulfilled a dream. It keeps both my
mind and my body moving.
I learn something new with every class and am always greeted with enthusiasm and encouragement. Most importantly, I have gained new friendships with a group of ladies of common interest that are supportive and great fun to be with.” ~ Phyllis Teels

“I have been taking belly dancing classes since January of 2011. I love belly dancing classes and truly believe they are one of the best things to happen to me. I have gained an immeasurable amount of confidence and self-esteem since starting my classes.
Heather is patient and very understanding. She constantly encourages me to strive for the next level in my dancing abilities. She has also taught me to be patient with myself to allow myself to improve. The recitals ** are extremely exciting. Being in front of an audience is fun and scary at the same time. It has shown me just how much my confidence has grown. Come join our class. Enjoy the friendship and enthusiasm of a fantastic teacher. There is none better.” ~ Delores Richards
**Teacher’s note: Performing in the student showcase is not required to attend class.

“I love belly dancing! I am a middle-aged woman with no formal dance training, but belly dancing has been surprisingly easy to learn, empowering, and very enjoyable! Of course dancing is wonderful exercise but I have gained much more than a bit of toning.
Belly dancing celebrates the female form in all shapes and sizes! We are all beautiful belly dancers! I feel more graceful, sexy, and comfortable in my skin. I also love the creative aspect of costuming and make up for performances too! Heather is a fabulous teacher too! Join us and release your inner goddess!”
